Hallow Church
Hallow Church

Located in a rural environment adjacent to the main A443, this lovely sandstone building hosts splendid view across to the Malvern Hills.

Consecrated in 1869 gravestones surround the beautiful sandstone church building, local sandstone brought from a quarry at Holt was used.  It is a splendid example of Victorian Gothic, in the style of 13th-14th centuries. The flying buttresses which support the roof are a notable feature but proved so costly that it was not possible to build the tower until 1879.

Inside. Traditional style with high vaulted ceiling. Magnificent Reredos, a gift from Earl Beauchamp, made of alabaster and marble. The font was sculptured locally by Forsyth. The Lady Chapel stands at the east end of the south aisle and contains a window with Jesus & Peter inscribed “Jesus said unto him feed my sheep” A war bronze tablet memorial stands at the back of church with names of the dead from the Great war 1914-1918. A stone tablet marks the war 1939-1945.  Memorials on the walls are taken from the old church; most interesting is that of Sir Charles Bell, of Bell’s palsy, who died here in 1842 whilst visiting Hallow Park.
