St Johns in the Snow
St Johns in the Snow

St. John the Baptist, set ‘fayrely mounted on a hyll’, is the beautiful, historic town church, of Bromsgrove, just off the M42 and M5. Bromsgrove is a delightful Market Town with St John’s church at its very heart. The church overlooks Market Street and Kidderminster Road and is accessible through Crown Close.

Length, breadth and height combine to make St John’s a highly visible of landmark  cathedral proportions.  it’s magnificent spire sits atop a splendid tower, visible from the Malvern Hills. Ancient 16th and 17thC tombs litter the ancient burial ground.

With its cathedralesque interior, galaxy of monuments, stained glass and layers of architectural history, it contains an almost monastic sense of peace and calm.

Look for:

  • The Talbort & Stafford Tombs. 15th/16th century significant families in the Chantry Chapel.
  • The Lyttleton Tomb. 16th century significant legal figure.
  • East and West windows Victorian masterpieces.
  • The squint. An excellent example for 'synchronised elevation'!
  • Civil War 'shot' marks. Outside on north west face of Tower.
  • 17th century Lyche gate. Dated 1657 at the top of the famous 'Bromsgrove Steps'.
